Journey Group is for kids who have spent some time riding the paved trails, sidewalks, parkway, and maybe even some singletrack. This three class, 90 minute per class mini-session builds upon the method introduced through the JRA group though it is not necessary for kids to have gone through a JRA session to join the Journey group. Consistent with the NCYD method of instruction participants apply the fundamental bike skills instruction they receive at the beginning of each class to progressive series of ability-appropriate activities. Through the use of simple instructional prompts and peer support participants explore a broader perimeter of the neighborhood and are exposed to challenges they can opt-in or out of. These mini-sessions are perfect for busy families that may not be able to commit to a longer session. They also provide an efficient, effective, and enjoyable way to assess the ability and interests of kids for future NCYD programatic opportunity without the pressure and inaccuracies that often come through reliance on other conventional placement assessments.
Journey groups are comprised of 6 - 8 participants instructed by 2 - 3 certified and experienced instructors. Classes are all-inclusive. Activities typically stick within a 1 mile radius of the primary park but can venture out 2 to 3 miles depending upon the ability and interest of the participants. Journey groups are designed for kids who are confident on their bikes and looking to broaden their skills, endurance, and exploration.
